HISTORICAL: a feminist archive 2016 - present
PHOTOGRAPHIC ARCHIVE OF FEMINIST DEMONSTRATIONS IN MEXICO CITY
Históricas (Historical) is a photographic record of the feminist movement’s demonstrations in Mexico City since 2016. Working independently, I have captured the rapid and dynamic evolution of protest strategies and the occupation of public space in response to gender-based violence in the country.
This project stems from my commitment to preserving a visual memory of the feminist struggle in Mexico, emphasizing agency and self-representation. My goal is to construct a counter-narrative that challenges the official history imposed by mainstream media—media that all too often distort and delegitimize the movement’s actions.
This photographic body is not only a testimony to history but also an active part of its construction. It is both witness and transformation, because we are Históricas (Historical).
